You may get a much better response on the AlfaBB.   Tens of millions more Alfa were delivered to North America.  It also has the best archive of posts on 105 series cars and people still interested in talking about them and providing help, etc.

932 Series (156, GTV, Spider, 147, GT, and 166) / 2L JTS Rough Idle
Last post by Dr_Doom - March 22, 2025, 11:51:04 PM
Hi, my 2L JTS has a rough idle and a bad exhaust smell. It misfires a bit on idle with the rpm needle fluctuating but no engine light. No engine codes are showing recently, but sometimes it would show a general misfire code and cylinder 1 misfire on MultiECU Scan, but no engine light. I pulled the plugs out and all were a bit black and sooty, but not wet. A compression test showed that cylinders 1,2,4 at 150psi, but 3 at 125psi, a bit of oil in the cylinder and compression increased to about 200psi but the plug looks the same as the rest (not more sooty or wet/oily). There is also no major/large amounts of smoke coming from the exhaust. I was thinking if maybe all 4 injectors are letting too  much fuel in but I want to see if anyone else has any other ideas of possible causes.

Is it possible that a previous owner tuned the ECU to run rich? (ECU looks stock) Or maybe an incorrect reading from a faulty sensor changing the fuel mixture? I have added fuel injector cleaner to try and see if anything changes but same result.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to establish whether my 1971 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV is still amoungst us in the land of the living. I sold in Queensland  a Giallo Ochre (original colour)1750 GTV that had been painted Red in the engine bay but painted white on the outside in 1987.Engine number was I believe to be B2890.The steering wheel was engraved on the left spoke with a persons name on it.I would just like to maybe know the final outcome of this little car as I enjoyed its company and it was an intergral part of my life in my 20's.

Yes that's a good point. It's my understanding that the pressure from the tank pump drops when the issue arises. I guess we'll find out soon...

"A good place to start" and referencing a thread online makes alarm bells go off in my head.

May I suggest before purchasing a new in tank pump you first confirm your "Alfa guy" has done a diagnostic on the car and measured both the pressure from the in tank pump is a constant 5-6 Bar and the pressure from the High Pressure Pump (Fuel Pressure Measured) consistently follows the pressure that the engine requires (Fuel Pressure Calculated) while the engine is being run/driven (between 6 & 120 Bar). This should confirm where the issue lies.

However, if both check out then start with the in tank pump.

As mentioned before, not saying it's not the in tank pump, but better to make sure first, if possible.

Thanks for the follow up Bazzbazz. Yes my alfa guy thinks this is a good place to start. And particularly considering the following forum thread where it seems many others have had very similar issues:

Buy/Swap/Sell [Announce ONLY] / WTB - 1750 105 Gearbox Bellhou...

Looking for the metal spacer that goes between gearbox and engine for 1750 Nord engine. I know can get new from Classic Alfa or Alfaholics, but hoping someone has one available and ideally located in Melbourne metro / Morn Peninsula general area.

WARNING: I was contacted via a PM by someone called Gregory (joined forum on 20 March 2025 and has zero in way of bio etc) to reach out to a Bob Holthaus via email address of bobholthaus88@gmail.com.
The email discussion all looked legit and was asked to send funds via paypal to his son at Ewiwilemdestiny@gmail.com, again didn't raise any alarm bells until the funds left as Canadian Dollars and as was Family and Friends the transfer was non recoverable.
Its now been days and no comms from either or any of the above so my recommendation is do not deal with any requests to these addresses or individuals as it strikes me this is a scam.
Finally always do the transfer as Good / Services - and at least have protection even though might cost a little more.
I will now buy same item from Classic Alfa with my next order - lesson learnt
