Another missing grommet?

I was checking the electric mirror and door light switch wiring in the door jamb last weekend and noticed the wiring for the side indicator on the front guard poking its way through a 5 cent sized hole to the inner wheel well.

Surely there should be a grommet here to stop water sprayed up by the front tyre entering the door jamb?

I don't actually remember there being a grommet there. Doesn't mean it shouldn't have one...

Hi Anthony
Unable to confirm if grommet is fitted on my vehicle (need to access via removal of inner guard panel), but I would suggest that from factory there would have been a grommet not only to prevent water from entering, but also wires from chaffing over time (standard engineering practice). Correct size grommet available from auto parts stores is all that is required.

Thanks Bonno, I did see a pack of micellaneous sized grommets from one of the auto stores so will go down that path.

On another note Bonno you mention an inner guard panel. Is that the panel tha is often removed as it can actually encourage rust in the wheel well due to trapping dirt and debris? Mine has no such panel on either side, by looking in the wheel well I can see where the wires for the front side indicator poke through from the door jamb.

I will have to remove panel or access via side indicator light to see whether mine has rubber grommet in the near future.  I have attached photo of the RHS inner wheel arch panel referred to in my previous post.

Hi bonno, is the inner wheel arch panel in your photo nearer the front bumper or the passenger compartment?

The panel is located as viewed from the bumper end looking back towards the passenger compartment.

I bought a replacement panel like the one bonno has shown as one of mine was looking worse for wear. The replacement panel was excellent but didn't have the rubber part attached so I had to fabricate something up from some spare neoprene I had and then glued it on. Seems to have worked. I'll find the place I bought it from and post the link.
