Pretty sweet looking little Sud...
Love the battle scars. Looks like fun.
Its great to look at isnt it and those series 1 Sud Ti's are very hard to find regardless of the history. But GBP28k is one heck of a lot of dosh and there is no mention of whether it actually runs, if there is any of the dreaded rust (the Trofea cars were standard Sud Ti's until they got the go faster bits), or such like.
But good luck to them. Its probably the one and only chance to buy one of these.
Even if I could afford it - what would you do with it? I don't think it'd be suitable for any historic classes?
Quotewhat would you do with it?
1. Mount a very serious campaign for the AROCOA Vic R 1 Sprint series championship.
2. Lend it to Ray Pignataro so he could finally beat his wife Susan in a sprint.
3. Just show up and annoy Frank Musco.
Geez Evan, I haven't even put my mind to it . This is only scratching the surface.
Nice one Mr Gulliver. However if it's original I don't think they were actually *that* quick - built for a parity series rather than to compete with other makes. I'd expect a good 1.7 motor to make more power, and it'd be a shame to modify a historic race car just to compete... I could be wrong.

Throwing money at the problem might be the way to finally beat Frank though. Maybe.
Probably best to equate it to buying any classic car rather than looking at it as a serious competition tool.

122bhp and 820kg would go alright though, certainly enough to have loads of fun. Were the engine internals modified at all? It would probably qualify for Group C wouldn't it? Or do they have to have actually competed in Group C contemporaneously to be eligible for historics? It might be able to keep a Gemini honest......
Thanks for the support Paul,
If 122hp is correct, I'd say that car would be kind of fast, considering my car has 97hp. It wouldn't be keeping Gemini's??? honest, it would be keeping GTV's honest...
QuoteThanks for the support Paul,
Sorry Ray, gratuitous & uncalled for. But I know how you must feel sometimes. I can't play tennis ,squash or golf against my wife. So I'm not lending her the Alfetta anytime soon.

With you behind the wheel perhaps :)

I reckon so Zio Frank, Alfetta GTVs with 10520 cams had 122hp and were at least 200
kg heavier.
That Sud would be a hoot to drive
Must be a bloody powerful Gemini then, maybe with a Calibra turbo donk swapped in

Frank your car has 97hp at the wheels? That'd be somewhere 110-120 at the flywheel, am I right?
Yeah okay so it'd be quick-ish, but still an oddball in historic racing.

I think to qualify for Group C you need an original Group C logbook (someone will correct me here). Ray Gulson ran a Sud at Bathurst in Group C as we've discussed here before - that would be an interesting option if you could find the chassis and logbook. The tail end of the Group C field at the Island this year looks like they were lapping 2.06-2.07, so I guess you'd find someone to play with.
Or just build up a Sud with no history, and beat the snot out of it in club sprints... speaking of which, I can't wait for next weekend!

Evan, I couldn't agree more. It would be awesome to see a Replica of a Trofeo Sud at club sprints.

The history of the Gulson green Sud is known.
The car was sold to Andrew Leithhead (ex AROCA NSW President and now President of the ARDC) and turned into a sports sedan, as one did in those days. I believe the colour was orange.
The car was rolled and written off I think in the late 80s. It was reshelled and kept the original (ex-Group C) logbook I believe and raced on.
It was then sold to well known Sydney Sud exponent Paul Murray, I believe as a rolling shell. I know that the trick Autodelta close ratio gearbox went to Phil Whalley and Paul may have used some of the other bits for his yellow (ex Geoge Piazza) Sud. I believe that he still has what is left of the shell and the Group C logbook, but the fact that it has been reshelled in its life and doesn't maintain its Group C origins means that it can't be resuscitated...
I think it's a replica but very nice anyway and more preferable.
