Has anyone here put power steering on their GTV6? If so how difficult is it to fit a system from an Alfa 90?

Cheers

i dont think it would be that hard all you need to do is put the rack in (prob the hardest part) and fit the pump near the alternator (like the 90) and place the fluid bottle somewhere. the only thing powersteer helps in the 90 is at low speed like 10-20kms once ur above that there is no real effect. in fact i think no powersteering is better  when on the race track as you have more feel of what the cars doing

It's actually a pretty common upgrade.  Talk to any of the main service shops and they'll probably have done it.  I know for sure that Beninca's have done quite a few.

My car is a nightmare at low speed to turn, it would be a good upgrade as far as I can tell, the 90 we used to have was easy to park in comparison.

My mechanic took out the power steering rack in my 90 and put it in a GTV6 for a old guy with skinny arms lol

So yes the 90 power steering works very well in the GTV6.

Also I just bought a GTV6  3.0 with Power steering, good for parking I guess  :-

Hi all

The power steering racks from alfa 75's and 90's will fit into your 116 gtv.
But you will also need to replace the steering column, the uni jointed coupling on 75/90's  between the rack and the colum  has a larger spline, meaning new will not fit old, you also then need to use switch gear from newer cars to fit the 75/90 steering colum.
You could DR   [eg: cutt and weld] the uni joint, but you would have to be very carefull with any modifications to steering components
The uni joint is the collapsible part of the steering so the wheel does'nt kill you in an accident

cheers Glen

Easy solution, just pump some iron or get on those coffee grinders and build some muscles...Yea power steering wouid be nice if I was doing some figure eights in the local safeway car park, but at 60 I've given that up!!!!
