Recognise this part? 916 V6 1998

Driving along minding my own business and onto my left clutch foot drops this part. It has some light grease on it. Craning my neck I can't see where it has dropped from, somewhere presumably above the clutch pedal.

Everything seems otherwise fine, but does anyone know where it belongs? I assume it's needed somewhere.

Any tips appreciated. It's a 1998 Alfa GTV V6 (916).
