So in the process of removing a 12v 3.0 from a 164, I thought I'd see what a 164 chop-top would look like.

Just personally, I think it looks rakishly handsome.  Those B-pillars moved a fair bit afterwards though.

That's awesome!

(In the 'after' shots I half expected the appearance of a man in a white coat to issue you the first in a series of challenges ...)

It'll be going in a 90.

Sheldon,

You are right...it doesn't look half bad!

The crease line going from the rear all the way to the front accentuates the waistline well enough so with a bit of work
Alfa could have made a decent looking convertible (perhaps make it a 2 door?).

There's the next challenge weld the rear doors!

Cheers,

Paul.
Speed costs money - how fast do you want to go?

Nice Sheldon!  The boys at Top Gear should look and learn!

Hmmm, nice idea, but would you really want to try and get this (pics 1 & 2) back to roadworthy?

Unfortunately, this (pic 3) will be the 164's final resting place.  A sad end for a majestic conveyance.  And all because of a P/S rack and the bloody air-con stepper motors.

On a side note, for anyone wanting to strip a 164 of it's engine (and/or roof), I can highly recommend having a demo-saw and a forklift handy, it makes it a one-man 10-hour job.  I might have been stuck without the saw, one of the sub-frame bolts wouldn't come out.  I honestly don't know what I would have done if I didn't have the massive saw right there.

RIP 164, you were a great car.  Your heart will live on though.......

So has it gone to the great Alfa graveyard in the sky already?  I just remembered I need a set of locks & keys for my old '89 164 because my mother managed to lose the key somewhere & I never had the valet key.  May have to visit Milanos if it's been carted off...

The 164 may be in heaven but I think Sheldon is headed the opposite direction!  Fancy doing that to a Pininfarina masterpiece :o
