Lancisti...who owns an Alfa...!!!
« on: December 19, 2008, 05:40:25 PM »
Hello All.

I have just purchased my first Alfa 156 JTS...(First Alfa Ever..!)
My other baby is a 1977 Lancia Beta Coupe....Fully restored.

The comparison you may ask?

The 156 is great to drive & goes well, (Love the interior & front end...)....sounds nice too.

But I am sorry to say you can't beat the sound of a non catalytic motor & the smell of petrol when you tear through the bends in the Beta...! LOL

They are both totally different cars from different era's, but are both my favorites.

The Beta is fun in the sense you can throw it (thrash it) around
& is very forgiving...!
Having said that I notice you get just as many looks in the Alfa as you do in the Beta...!

One question I do want to ask as there is many opinion in the forums.
The oil question... Fully Synth & what brand?

Cheers

Nice....I have always liked the Beta.  The oil Q i will leave to another to answer, I think Gary may have 2c worth on that.

Hi Again.

Can anyone suggest a supplier for 2004 (Facelift) 156 Body Kits?

Would love to track down an AutoDelta GTA kit but I am open for suggestions...

Cheers

Lancia Beta is a great car.  Was the first Italian car I ever drove, a mate had an HPE back in NZ when we were 18 or so.  I couldn't believe how well that thing handled.  Shame it turned out the rust had been fixed with bog and bits of newspaper!!

I assume you're asking about oil for the 156, not the Beta?

Yes...for the 156.

I took it to ROCCA Motors in Northcote & they used a Penrite Sythetic Oil.
But Im not sure which one (I think it is the Penrite SIN range).

I have to call him up & ask what Vescosity it was.
He advised the Penrite would not burn as quick so I wouldn't have to worry as much with checking the oil level every 2 weeks....

(It burnt 1 lite in 3000K with the Mobile Synthetic....)

My little Beta was fully restored & has not a spec of rust anywhere.
It actually looks like its only a few years old...not 33 yrs...

It was love at first sight...! LOL

Here she was the first time I ever saw her....

Then I cheated on her with a younger Alfa 156......

have a look at our sponsors page (link on top left on home page)for Alfa Specialists. e.g. Maranello Pur-Sang.

I strongly recommend you contact these guys as they have access to the right products and contacts for any appropriate  modifications or kits for your car.  Also feedback has proved that you do get a better price.  Let us know how you go.

Cheers.

The Beta looks great!  I am pretty hopeless when confronted with a Lancia.  I almost bought a Fulvia 1.3 before the GTJ came around, the extra power and rear wheel drive giving it the edge at the time.

The D50 was an intriguing GP car, and the fifties sports racers were super competitive and beautiful.  Then I look at the road and rally cars: Aurelia, Appia, Flaminia, Fulvia, Stratos, Montecarlo, 037, Integrale.  Like Alfa a wonderful history.

Don't forget the Delta S4! It never got the chance to show itself, but what a technical masterpiece.

Of course, the S4!  "Too much lag with a big turbo, let's keep the supercharger for low down boost!".  What a debut in the 1985 RAC as well- Toivonen/Alen 1-2.  The way Henri was driving, 1986 was going to be a cakewalk.  Then Corsica happened...

Saw a Beta HPE today on Lygon St.  Bright yellow, looked in very good condition.

Back to oils, just don't buy whatever brand it is that John (c**ksmoker) Laws and Ricky (bad sportsmanship) Ponting advertise.  Get that s**t off the TV.

Hi.

Thanks for the tip re the oils.....

I have had the Penrite SIN 5 in her for about a month & not a drop burned...yet....!

One other question I have....

Is there a factory idling fault?
She seems to have a slight miss when at idle but I was advised this is a factory thing & can;t be fixed....

Im suspecting a new set of leads might do the trick...and feedback or suggesetions...

Thanks

What great taste in cars you have 156oro.
My everyday car is an Alfa 156 and the weekend toy is a fully restored 1981 Lancia Montecarlo.
As good as the Monte is, the 156 is definiitely a more comfortable drive.
Italian cars truly are magnificent things!

Hi Scarlin.

Yes....

I am planning a project for next year to put together a track Beta Coupe (76-78) FL series.

You don't see many/any around on race days & I think it would be a buzz for people to see one going hard on a track..

Check out this Youtube video of a 1300cc Beta Coupe having fun (Giving it a run for its money) with a Porche 911 on a track in Europe.

Hey...late last year I bought a 1981 Beta Coupe (2000cc engine) from a salvage auction...its hit something so the front left is a bit bent...

Anyway I had good intentions - fixing it was the plan but I don't have the $$ atm (I'm a student who runs an Alfa 166 as well...) and now its decided not to start...seems to be the starter motor but I haven't really checked

If you want it its yours...you sound like you might have some use for it.

Hi AGM155

Thanks for the offer....

I cringe everytime I go to a wrecking yard for parts & see a Lancia rusting away or being crushed.....They need to be saved...

Were about's are you located?

Re your starter motor...give it a tap (or get someone to tap it with a piece of timber) while you crank it.
If it starts then its just solinoids.

If it only plays up when its hot (ie it wont restart after driving) you can have a relay made up that directs power direct from the battery when you kick it over....
This worked for some else who had this problem...it was a $40 fix at the local sparky.

Cheers
