P plater took out my 156 (see my post history if u want pics), insurance was only about 1,000 less then a GT on carsguide with similar KM and age
Issue for me is I hated the never ending engine light, and considering just paying the 16k and getting a 2-3 year old Giulietta. Not really interested in 159 and seem too expensive for the age.

Sorry to hear about the fate of your 156, never ending engine light can be usually cured by fixing up what it is sqarking about, on a JTS there are FOUR oxygen sensors that can go bad, you need to get the car scanned to find out whether they are faulty or not, and the TWO catalytic convertors can clog up with age and need attention, not to mention coil packs.
A 2-3 year old Giulietta with low kilometres for 16k seems like a good idea, Colin.

If you want a GT I wouldn't recommend the JTS, only the 3.2 V6 manual. Fantastic cars.

With the GT 2.0 you'll have the same issues as you had with the 156. It's the JTS engines, I don't recommend them to anybody looking to buy an Alfa. Unfortunately they are just money pits, they seem to eat coil packs, thermostats, and oxy sensors, oh and let's not forget after all that eating, they are thirsty, so they drink engine oil. Some of the worst ones I've seen can chew 1L per 1000km.

You won't have anywhere near as many problems with a V6.

Cheers.

I agree with Mick . . . . if you can find one that is.

(I mean find a V6 GT, Not Mick! Mick is easy to find, just look for a Grease Pit under an Alfa somewhere
and look for the bleary eyes staring out of the gloom)   ;)
