I have bought a 164A from a friend, but cant find any details about the -A- designation.
It was first purchased in London and imported to Australia.
I'm wondering how it compares to other models and if there is a complete list of all models produced.
It has the 5 speed manual and an electric sunroof, but otherwise seems reasonably standard.
Haven't ever dealt with Alfas until now so i'm just working out what to do with it.

Never heard of a 164A. What badging does it have on the bootlid?

The 'A' designation is a configuration category which is for parts and service departments ordering info. My '89 164 is a 164A (Hong Kong Import) 3.0 12 valve 5sp manual. Actually the 164A designation I believe is a descriptor of the manual transmission, no doubt your engine code is AR06410. Found this little list off an ebay item which reminded me of this post its indicative of that descriptor indicating the type of 164 configuration. Ive highlighted the 164A model...

Awesome! Thanks for the reply, my reply only took 2 years. ::)

Ive only just started doing something with it.

It wasnt in the best condition and im not so interested in restoring it. I dont want to throw it away though, so ive decided to strip it back to something of a track setup.

Hopefully making the most of its best assets, its ride and handling.

A few more

V AR 164

Wow! Looks pretty clean to me!

I would die to have a manual in my 164! They are such a great gearbox having driven a Q manual a few months ago. Also you have tan interior which is pretty rare to come across in Australia!

A track car would be pretty cool to see! Another gentleman on here (CoolJesus) also has one that he is making into a track car.

Ps: If it has been sitting for a while, I'd get in there and change the timing belt asap as they a prone to snapping and destroying engines. Also replace your water pump, thermostat and hoses while your at it!

Overall nice car with some nice wheels too! Keep the updates coming!

Cheers, Andrew.

Thanks mate,
It looks much better in those pics. Seats are very worn and torn, carpets filthy, rain leaks in, trim falling apart and missing.
I had the timing belt and plugs changed and had it running semi regularly up until about 18 months ago.
It stopped running properly so I parked it. Replaced coil, leads & distributor, but now it starts and idles for about 2 seconds before shutting off. Unless I feather the accelerator to keep the idle revs up.
I'm thinking it could be caused by a whole lot of things, but I'll get to work on the fuel system to start and see if that helps.
Might need to start a thread for it..

Thank you Jesus.
It is the 6410 engine.
