Title: Great Victorian Alfa driving road list
Post by: Evan Bottcher on December 09, 2012, 09:44:36 PM
Hi folks,

Inspired by a mate who's building a list of his own, I'd like to start a list of everyone's favourite Alfa driving roads in Victoria.  Capturing some info (1-5) on road condition, traffic levels, twistiness, and scenery.  I'll kick off with a few that come to mind - if you want to make some suggestions, then reply and I'll collate them into this post.  Focussing the list on roads, not whole itineraries.

Anywhere in the North East that Paul Edwards said was good (waiting for your reply Paul, also could you post the route /driving notes  for the last tour over the top of of Hotham , down to Omeo )

Gippsland also offers some great drives . Heres a couple of my favourites
1. Grantville to Daylston.
2. Cape Patterson to Inverloch ( also like a mini Great Ocean Road drive)
3. Meeniyan to Mirboo North via Dumbalk North ( Another Tony Raditsis favourite)

If you get up early enough on a Sunday morning you can string all three together. Breakfast at RACV club Inverloch. Then be home for a late lunch.

Paul, until Mr Alpine Chapter responds I offer the following ...
But I would also caution him against posting route notes - after all, if ya aint there, ya dont deserve 'em!

Omeo to Falls Creek:
Road: 2-4 (but mostly 4, just take the broken bit slowly)
Traffic: 1- (but watch out for it, its probably coming at you fast!)
Twisty: 3 - 5+ (ave 4)
Scenery: 5+ (minumum!)
Duration: two (?) solid hours of grin (may be longer ... ?)
The *best* tour yet!

Ace, your right about the scenery on the Omeo to Falls Creek Rd. About 8 years ago  mid december, I actually did it the other way around, coming down the mountain . The bits around Cobungra where some of the most memorable i have ever seen. All the native grass was up about chest height , with no fences on the side of the road and the grass moving about in the wind in great swathes, it was like driving through waves in the ocean.
