Title: The mysterious missing door part?
Post by: Polyal on September 19, 2012, 07:48:15 PM
Ok so I was warned these doors are trouble..its going to be the end of me.

Can anyone tell me if there is a linkage between the exterior door handle key lock mechanism and the rod/lock/winder mechanism for the interior door handle.

After playing with it Ive come to the conclusion that if you turn the interior door handle the opposite way it works as a lock from the inside..is this correct? I guess it would make sense as there seems to be a lack of a "pull type" lock like other cars...

Below is a pic showing the exterior handle and the end point with has a ball which looks the same on the rod/lock/winder part...is there meant to be something joining them? If so, where do I get it.

My interior door winder shafts have the splines destroyed so I sourced some new ones...im undoing the rivets but thats another thread (literally..hang on).

I know using the key I can lock my doors from the outside no problems, but as I have everything apart I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.

Thanks for any tips!

Exterior handle lifted into position with phantom linkage missing?

After pulling many Sud and 33 door locks apart, it seems you are missing a relay rod, that is a rod that connects the 2 ball joints, that is a steel rod with nylon female ball joints on both ends, may have fallen in bottom of door and through a drain hole, Colin.

I'll take a pic of what you're missing and post it tonight - you're both right - it's the 4" long rod with female rubber cups to hold the ball joint. I've got some NOS ones - but there should be some cheaper used ones available from the usual suspects.
