Title: 159 Diesel
Post by: alfagtv58 on December 10, 2007, 10:47:16 AM
I was out at Sandown on Saturday and saw the 159 Diesel racing in the 1 Hour Production Car race.  I think it is the quietest race car I have ever heard!!  Man that thing needs an exhaust system  ;)

It did well though, it just keeps going...and going...and going.  Does anyone know if it has been out since Bathurst 12 hour back in April?

I've asked AR GM David Stone if the 159 at Sandown last weekend was the same as the Buthurst one and if it has been out since.  He kindly replied with the following:

"Yes, it is the same car but with a standard computer (just like a road car). We used the Sandown meeting to test some front-end geometry and springs – so the using standard computer was OK for this purpose. The hotted-up computer was not compatible with the current exhaust / DPF system that was fitted at the event.

John Milan the chief engineer drove it a day/night meeting at Oran Park around August to test some other components. – that's the only other meeting.

The next event is the Bathurst 12 hour in February, though it might run in the Fiat Al Monte Hillclimb at Bathurst in January if we need to test anything that requires a full throttle / load test.

We will also enter a 147 1.9 diesel to support the 159 entry at the 12 hour race."

Two Alfas at Bathurst 12 Hour!  That's great for our marque!

Cheers

Cool, I should be free that weekend if they need another driver ;)

How do you get a drive?

You've changed your tune Scott.  Not only would you drive a front-wheel-drive, but a diesel fwd at that?

I'll make allowances.....it'll be hard, but I'll do it for the marque

I've been advised that this 159 Diesel will be FOR SALE after the Bathurst event as is.  If it can't be sold, it will be converted back to standard.  Ateco will then prepare another car for the 2009 event.

No info at this time on the price.

I can see the ad now.
Low millage, only driven on Sundays, 3 caring drivers and always factory maintained. A steal at only $$$$
