One of the hooks spot-welded to the exhaust pipe broke off cleanly, its separated at the weld joint, obviously a poor weld. The exhaust system is 2 years old and has no rust, what is the best way of re-attaching the hook?
Are there any hangers available that can be clamped around the pipe via nut & bolt and provide the hooks for the rubber hangers?
I usually get an exhaust clamp, [a 'u' type] and put it around the pipe and hook, and then hang it on the body mouted hanger, and when its all lined up, tighten the exhaust clamp, you can get the exhaust clamps from Repco or an exhaust muffler outlet, but beware, they will try to sell you a new muffler at the exhaust place, Colin.
Choderboy, yes welding is the best solution especially since the surfaces are in very good condition, however, I dont have access to an hoist to raise the car.
If you have access to a mig welder, and are good at it or know someone that is, thats good, but if not, maybe use a 'u' clamp to hold the hook on, and when you get time, take the exhaust pipe off and take it to a muffler place and get it rewelded, doing it on the car is a bit dodgy around petrol lines and tanks, Colin.
Choderboy, the exhaust pipe from resonator to muffler is all one piece (someone welded it). To provide enough space for a welder to properly do the job I either need an hoist or a hole.
