Hi all,
My front pads are very squeaky and it was suggested that they might be of poor quality.
I pulled one out and they are Ferodos with the markings 1/D416 125 or 1/0416 125... though one of the numbers might be incorrect because the markings are little smudgy.
Do these numbers mean anything to anybody?
I am trying to figure out whether I should replace them, though they are nearly new. I am guessing they are squeaking because they have a metal content.
Cheers
Alan
On a quick search, I can't find reference in the Ferodo online catalogue to match those numbers.
However, often pad squeal relates to vibration of the pads within the calipers. You can rid this by cleaning all the surfaces on which the pad 'sits' (ie: the top/bottom edges, and the backplace that the piston pushes against). Then, add fresh copper grease to these same surfaces (and obviously not on the braking surface).
If your existing pads perform well enough for you, and have plenty of meat left, there's probably no need to change them. Try the cleaning and greasing first.
:)
Thanks for the tip Shiny, the pads stop the car well enough, I will get myself some copper grease.
Cheers
Alan
