Title: engine choice for spider
Post by: open spider on October 27, 2011, 01:57:02 PM
Looking at reigniting my latent alfisti tendecies having owned a 105 1.6 gt junior and two 156.
Looking at getting a 2001-2003/4  spider.
Comments appreciated re engine choice ,looking for great engine noise and character ,am leaning towards a 3l v6 but wonder if the 3.2 l v6 is the gm based one which appears not to have been favourably thought of or is still a stretched out traditional alfa one.
any specific pointers to look for in purchasing one would be appreciated .
I intend going to to wesley on sunday where I believe many good examples will be on show

nope. spiders of that vintage are the good ol' arese v6.

not quite the GTA spec, a lil' detuned, like the GT, but very, very nice...

obviously the 3.0s are older and cheaper, it really boils down to whether or not you perfer the ph 2 rather than the ph 3 nose job...

Having owned the 4cyl 147 and then upgrading to the V6 in the GTA, I'd go for the v6. Fantastic sound, smoothness and responsiveness is worth the petrol $.

I have driven twinspark spider which are nice but 3.2 arese V6 is unbelievable ;D the torque is great, just enjoy :).

To confirm matters, the 916 Spider did not have the GM engine, but as ALFAAA notes , the Arese V6 - just the last of the run with the larger engine.

Also the same 'size' as the 147/156 GTA engine.  Not sure about output.

Output is less, due to redesigned manifold to fit in the tighter engine bay.

Was fortunate enough to get along to Wesley and see some beautiful AlfaSpider including two lovely spiders including Alfaa .
I am looking at one which is advertised as tan interior but looks darker .There we're a couple with a brown interior I was wondering if it is photo artifact or were there two shades of tan/ brown on 04 spiders.
If an inspection of a vehicle in qld whom would one use Racq ? Or any other suggestions
If I go ahead any suggestions for interstate transport .

Racq would be of little value; get a recommendation for a Specialist in the area that the car is located from one of our banana bender friends. Where in Qld is the car located?
