Title: Transaxle selectors
Post by: meizhak on August 29, 2011, 12:10:17 PM
Good Morning,

Does anyone know where I can purchase a new or good secondhand 1st, 2nd selector fork for my 79 GTV.

Has anyone tried to recondition these?

Cheers

We (a mate who can weld and me as chief grinder and fitter) "reconditioned" one a while ago. Seemed to do the trick.

Do mean the face has worn?  I've had them built up with bronze many years ago.

Aggie, yes quite badly on one. I have a couple of spare boxes so will see if one of them is any better.

Have a machine shop next door who say they can do it.

i will provide them with both selector and ring. How much tolerance should they have?

Anyone know?

Cheers

It depends on how accurate and sqaure you can get them, if they are perfectly accurate you should have .05mm per side, '1mm total clearance between the fork and the selector ring, if its a bit all over the place then you will have to machine it and then assemble it and see how accurate it all is, obviously you cannot still buy the forks new?, as welding it and machining it will cost a fair bit, Colin.

Colin buying new would be nice but not an option Im led to believe by various parts people.

I have no other choice but to weld and machine, out of the three boxes I have none are any good.

You have checked all the ebay sites?, i found the Italian ebay sites are great for Alfa parts and the Italian is reasonably easy to understand, the British sites are good as well, is this particular fork prone to wearing out on all boxes, or just yours, you might be able to get a good one from a second hand gearbox, and are they the same forks as a 75?, they are a bit newer and you could find new old stock [NOS], Colin.
