Title: Aluminium Suppliers???
Post by: Duk on July 12, 2011, 08:58:16 PM
Can anybody share a supplier of well priced 6061 aluminium round bar? I'll probably go for outboard rear brakes on my 75 and want to make some rotor hats that will double as bolt pattern adapters and need some decent sized aluminium round bar at least 200mm of 190/200mm diameter bar.

I am a manager at Extrusion Profiles Australia (aluminium extrusions). We use alloy 6060, 6463, 6106, 6061 & 6005 and temper to T4, T5 and T6.
We stock both 175 and 200mm diameter logs which we cut into billets to extrude through either a 1800 or 2600t press.
What you require would be a slice of the 200mm 6061 log, question is how thick; 6061 T6 has the same mechanical strength as 6005 T5.

Hmmm - that press could be something interesting to see.  In fact, I'm off to Youtube to see if I can find one.

But before I do, where exactly is your offcuts bin, and at what times is it unattended  ;D

We have the latest state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment, all from Italy, which enables us to run a "no scrap" cycle; the facility is also monitored by 27 cameras, perimeter infrared alarm system and private security ... no dogs.
How thick is the slice you would require?

You are right Neil Aluminium Express Bayswater, because they are so helpfull, they have a well stocked offcut bin, they do not mind cutting off bits for you, they don't seem to mind when i turn up during their lunchtime, i would kill for that!, contrast this to the other aluminium suppliers in that area, who are complete opposites, who won't cut anything off for you, and only want to sell you a complete length or sheet or whatever, Colin.
