Title: What size ius my engine?
Post by: michaeljc on June 06, 2011, 09:56:46 AM
Have recently become owner of a 1976 Alfetta GT but was told it now had a 2ltr engine.
Eng# is AK01623070079. I could not get capacity vs. eng. no. info by Google'ing so guess/hope someone in the club could easily assist me.
Car is planned for sprints once electrics are tidied up (a lot).
Also clutch master cylinder is leaking ..... Is it best to put new seal set or to simply get a new one ? Turin Imports or other?

Alfa engines used to have a casting mark on the front which would indicate engine capacity. Can't ever remember which was which but there was an inverted triangle, and a square. My current motors have 2.0 on the front.

Choice of new seal versus replacing with new unit would depend on cost and who overhauls the currently leaking unit. Would suggest that you not tackle this one unless you have appropriate experience for that job.

Like Barry said, casting on the head should give it away....attached is the casting marks and what they indicate

I think you will find the engine number id actually Eng# is AR01623070079 and that corresponds to a 2000 Alfetta engine.

A 1.8 Alfetta engine would have either 1608S (pre emission) or 1608X (post emission.)

Thanks everyone. 2.0 stamped on the head. Great help & good to know what I'm going to deal with. I got the engine no. off the NSW club permit paperwork that came with the car. Where actually is the engine no. on the block so I can check it out for sure?

Back of the block near the fly wheel exhaust side
