Post by: Datso on May 18, 2011, 04:06:27 PM
G'day Alfanatics

Need the following for my project:
105 series Berlina or engine that bolts to conventional type 5 speed
105 2ltr Crankshaft Berlina type
105 Gearbox (not transaxle type)

Edit: As long as the crankshaft can take conventional 5 speed.
Im in Melbourne

I might be a little thick (no comments from anyone  ;D), but what capacity engine are you trying to build up, 1300, 1600, 1750 or 2L ?

While a lot of 105 engine components can be interchanged, not all things are possible, if I understand correctly, or alternatively worth pursueing.  So for instance building up a 2L with a 1600 crank but with 1750 pistons etc may or may not be a goer.  I would have thought you need to have some idea of what sort of engine you are trying to build up, ie. Race/rally Engine, fast road, or normal road use.

Wouldn't you be better off simply buying say a dead 2L and upgrading it or ditto a 1750, albeit they are possibly a little harder to find.  There is sufficient go faster bits (pistons, conrods, bigger valves, hot cams) etc, available from the usual suppliers here (PACE, Milanospares etc), in the UK (eg. Alfaholics, Classic Alfa etc) and the USA (IAP, Centreline).  Ditto balancing, lightening of parts surely can achieve what you wish for.  So much info out there, but little in your posting to work with as to how to advise best.

As for gearboxes, have you tried Marc at Milano Spares or Robert (Rob Manning - Manning Motors in Sydney) for a starter.  Otherwise also keep an eye out on ebay and the AROCA State website classifieds.

Agh Dave, just saw your other post where you give some idea of the specs you are after.  I will leave it to more knowledgable people to provide you with the answers, but from memory, I am pretty sure the 1300, 1600 and 1750 blocks are all the same height, while the 2L is a little taller.  I don't have the dimensions details handy though. Sounds intriguing.

Goodluck with the project.

2l is different in bore spacing, all others are same (1300, 1600, 1750, 1.8l).
1300 has smaller mains so crank is not readilly interchangeable with 1600 or 1750.

i have few blocks and gearboxes, send me a PM if you are interested or want a chinwag.
