Title: SOLD Alfa 166 5k with brand new auto computer..PRICE UPDATE..bargain!
Post by: Mike on January 21, 2011, 12:44:40 PM
background:
I have had this car for about 4 months.  In that time I have had it delivered to Melbourne, put it on the boat, and taken the scenic route from Devonport to Hobart and enjoyed some fantastic motoring, the car was a dream on the road (it really was as good as Jeremy Clarkeson would have you believe...see youtube).  I then set about buying new badges, rear tail light (to replace faded one), factory steering wheel (mine was crazed a little on top), door window motors (couple did not work), and new disks and green stuff pads all round.  The cam belt was done and car serviced, things were going swimmingly.  I had an issue with the auto computer, it is replaced, and now automatic functions normally.

Price and conditions:

3.  6k with new computer and no reg (for interstate buyers, car is registered locally)

Specs:
Midnight blue with cream leather momo interior (heated seats etc)+.
3ltr Quad cam V6.  Tilt and retract elec sunroof.  Cruise control etc etc.
Full Alfa dealer service history.
I am flexible with delivery interstate etc, and anyone serious in the quad cam etc can have comp tests done, come test drive etc etc.  This is a genuine sale due to a rather unimpressed wife who was not expecting a 1.5k bill 2 weeks into ownership...  It's sad really as according to Arese spares, this is the only thing that goes wrong with these cars and once fixed properly the car should provide many years of trouble free motoring..even all brakes are brand new disks and pads.  I also have some spares, which will go with the car if my price is accepted.

PH:  0439003523, Mike

**UPDATE**
I've added the photos, please excuse the dismantled trim, it will be re-installed once I install a new computer.  I have missplaced the photos I had of the car washed and waxed, so please try to ok past the odd bird poo!  It's a really nice colour ranging from black to deep blue depending on the day.
Cheers
Mike

The fix is easy....somewhere between 200 and 2700 depending on what the engine diagnostic says....could be computer could be solenoid.  My loss someone else gain in this instance.  I find out tommorow what the diagnostics say, Max says computer, I feel not quite the right simptoms (dash readout works, but lock out solenoid seems to keep tripping every 15 sec and relay is getting hot).  Hence I've advertised worst case scenario and done the garry ground work to locate the new computer.  At least new owner would know computer is in perfect order.  If wife said fix it I would, but wife says shift it so I am....I recently bought a couple of other cars (she has a keep my house unclutored policy :-)).

Update:

It's the computer...it's cactus.  I beleive I will be able to get a new one at a discount rate, just waiting to see what that rate is, so may invest and sell as a runner..or at least offer the option.

Callipers are an awsome upgrade for any Alfa conversion, sexy and six? pot.  Open to sensible offers.

I'm still looking for the pics I took of the car...lost amoungst millions of pics of my son unfortunately.  Will sort out shortly one way or another.

I REALY don't want to part the car out (if you want to that's you decision), it's to nice for that.  If the price is not right, and that's all that's stopping you calling, then lets work somthing out.  Perhaps you have Alfetta spares / cars etc, I have GT,GTV and sendan Alfetta so any straight swap or swap plus cash adjustment would be considered.  I can arrange for delivery of the car to Melbourne for free if the car is purchased with the computer.  I will make a decision with the car one way or another in the next 2 weeks, and if I part it, I'm keeping the parts for my own projects :-)), so lets bargain :-)

Top gear loved it and you will to :-).  See his review here:

please re-read add if interested in the car, it is now only for sale, no swapping.  If anyone is considering this car, please, just give me a call and I'll provide all the support you need to get it to your doorstep.  Having moved my personal cars interstate many times I have lots of options.  This car is CHEAP, and as soon as the computer is in the car it goes on car sales and the side of the road for sale, then it's gone.  Perhaps the price implies the car is not in good condition but I assure you I have put effort into making sure that is not the case, any trim part not up to standard has been replaced.  Consider when looking at others for sale, that if their computer has never been touched, YOU will be the person replacing it at great personal expense, no one told me this when I was looking, so now you know, don't make my mistake.

Thanks
Mike

Still for sale, and still have not managed to put up on car sales due to time restrictions.  First person to make a sensible offer gets the car...but low ball offers and mucking me around will be treated with the due repsect deserved.  If you want a cheap car, make an offer, pay promtly and walk away with a bargain...simple for all involved!
