Title: Early 105 reverse light circuit
Post by: AikenDrum105 on January 20, 2011, 03:50:05 PM
Hi folks,

Just a quick one - in my '66 Super - the reverse lights only work with the ignition on.   I believe this is std behaviour - any thoughts ?

It makes sense really - if you left the car parked in reverse, you wouldn't want the lights to stay on all the time.

It's been flagged as a possible roadworthy item,  and easy enough to change the wiring I guess -  just curious, as the wiring doesn't seem to have been mucked about with.

Almost ... Registered ... Just ... a ... Little .... More .... Work ....

Appreciate any help,

Cheers,

Reverse lamp on the duetto stays lit on regardless of ignition.  Noticed it the other day when i put her on the road (to dry out)
I'll ask the previous caretaker if he changed anything  :)

The reverse lights on the 156 (Golf and every other car i've had) only come on with the ignition at MAR.  Can't see why they would need to work with the ignition off.

Scott,

Think I have a Super wiring diagram somewhere.  If it helps, let me know and I will dig it up and email it to you.

Thanks Phil - I did get a copy of the one Papajam on the Alfabb re-drew (attached)  which shows the reverse light only active with the parking lights on - but wondered if that was a US-only mod...

I think I'll check/mod it to make sure it works with ignition on independent of the headlights and call it good -  That makes the most sense.

Appreciate your help !

Cheers,

Just a quick follow up -  I rechecked the car - my reverse lights only operate when the parking lights are on - which matches the wiring diagram

The only things powered when the ignition is on,  is the ingition coil (surprise) via fuse #1 and the coil driven instruments (oil, water, petrol) via fuse #2

I'm going to take a line off fuse 2 and actuate a relay feeding 12V to one of those small aftermarket 5 blade fuseboxes - tuck it all up under the dash and use it to feed the reverse lights,  the audio system (whatever that ends up being) ,  the cig lighter socket I've put under the dash for charging things (ipod / gps etc)  And all the other critical parts  (Neon underbody lights,  electronic faux turbo pop-off valve, electric mirrorball, air lifters...)
