Post by: turboalfa on December 07, 2010, 09:06:50 AM
Hey guys how you,

My dad went out a bought another Transmission ECU for $1400 but it didnt change a thing.

the car wont rev anywhere over 1000 rpm with the foot to the floor . althought it use to but would just take off in a high gear . now even in park it will not rev like it should..

any idea why?

I'm no expert but its definatly in "limp home mode" for some reason, which could be a number of things.

I would take it to a dealer or specialist that can bring up any ECU fault codes that might shed more light on the issue, could be as simple as a faulty sensor.

My Father had the same symptoms with his 166, although when he replaced the transmission computer, the car instantly responded and ran as it should, no limp mode.

It seems that by changing the transmission computer in your car, it has introduced another problem?
So replace the original computer and see if the engine will rev over 1000 revs to determine whether it's the new transmission computer introducing the new symptom.
Is it the correct computer?
Have you checked simple things like blown fuses and all plug connections?

It is probably worth getting the fault diagnosed on the Alfa factoryexaminer at a dealer or Maranello's for example.

Other Alfa workshops have them like in Thornbury and Malvern East.

However was the replacement part new or used ?

It could be faulty as well.

it was used. . . and it is fault but the transmission computer still doesnt explain why it wont Rev at all .

even in Park . it use to even whilst the computer wasnt working.
