I learnt to drive on a Nissan Cedric, which was a prelude to the Nissan 2000 sedan.  They also made a station wagon.  And the road, up and down Arthurs Seat at night to teach me how to use column gears.

It was a cheap car the local Ampol Service station manager had for staff to learn how to drive - and he considered it very simple but reliable motoring.

It was even ahead of its early 60's features including 4 on the tree, extra dial on the dash,  zippered pockets on the doors and a radio.  It may of had carpet but that may have been the mandatory fle de le recycled from some ones lounge room.

Cheers

I, too, am old enough to remember the Nissan Cedric Super Six (to be read with a pronounced lisp). Blistering acceleration: spent a block or so in the city watching a Cedric with auto transmission trying to pass my tram. Wonderful sight!

Compared to an EK Holden , it was luxury motoring.

The staff (mostly students) used to go to down the coast a bit as it was the end of Year 12 and we had a few places to stay and of course a few cars at our disposal.

Not many cars had 4 gears on the column shift.

:D :D :D

After getting off the plane in Melbourne, I drove around in a $1000 Mitsubishi Scorpion auto for a little while.  I remember thinking  "gee, the trams are fast here.."

The Big Steal is a great film.  I nearly bought an XJ6 as my first car, so glad I didn't.  Ended up with a Mk 1 Cortina, after I just missed out on a Mini.

The Big Steal is a great film.

Claudia Karvan!  .. and a bunch of other incidental actors ....  ;)

but does it top BMX Bandits with the Freckly Ranga ?   .. back when pegs and 360 rotors were the hot mods !

strangely enough both my grandparents had his'n'hers 1965 Nissan Cedrics right up until the mid-1970's, his was blue hers was green, they were the first cars I remember them owning as a kid - great cars to ride in and very luxurious compared to my parent's VF Valiants  - both my grandparents cars are still in a shed on the family farm in SW WA but have succumbed to the dreaded tin worm...

On an aside about 'The big Steal'...remember the scene when the main characters parents (the cedric owners) say about their son Daniel: "is that Daniel the Lion Tamer or Daniel Our Son" as a little joke between them? Well, Guess how our first born got to be named Daniel??   Yes, true story  :D

Gordon Farkas?   Go the Goose!
