Title: WTB. 3.0l Headrers or extractors
Post by: Anthony Miller on November 24, 2010, 09:00:05 PM
Yeah I know.....like rocking horse shit but my 3.0l 75 has 2.5l headers(another sin of the previous owner) and one of them is cracked just about clean through. So if anyone is wrecking a 3.0l 75 or just happens to have a set of extractors they are no longer needing....

Are they different?  I thought the 2.5 and 3.0 part numbers were the same?

Apparently not or so I'm told,3.0l are bigger, can't say I've checked the part numbers though....

That would be the CSC pipes from Italy via EB spares in the UK, price works out to be $792 plus shipping. The quote I got from EB added about $100 to ship them which makes them roughly the same price as Pace Engineering here in Melbourne. The IAP site lists a set of pipes for $655 USD which , at the moment, converts to $655.18 AUD and I'd guess that shipping would be around $100 again, but I haven't got a quote from IAP so don't take that as gospel. Both of these header sets appear to be copies of the SZ pipes and both are still cheaper than having a set custom made but I doubt you will get the same level of personal service and back up that you'll get from Vin at Pace.

hi , s/steel headers not a good idea all the skyline s/steel headers crack
big time . heat tape on cast manifold will crack too.
be cool

Well that's not correct for Alfa's.

Alfa engines run ultra cool under bonnet temps compared to Skyline Turbo's.

SZ headers are are great option if you can find them.

John.

hi ,
I have never seen any SZ alfa ES30.

They must be runnning very thick stainless steel for it not to crack in the manifold.

Best Wishes

You must know something Alfa, Ferrari, Maserati and others don't know. *All* 24valve 164s, fwd GTV v6, 156 and 147 v6s GTs and Breras with the "Arese" motor have 400 series stainless headers - they're only about a 1.5 - 2mm wall thickness. The 164 ones are made by "Zeuna Ausburg" in Germany, same company that makes exhausts for Ferrari - not sure if the GTV V6 and 156/147 ones are made there too, but they're very similar.

The Stainless steel ebay skyrine manifolds you see cracking are finest china kwality, manufactured from the cheapest stainless you can find - doesn't help when you're hanging a few kilos of turbo off the end of the manifold either.

SZ headers are a great bolt in replacement for the cast iron manifolds, however  if you're not fanatical about keeping the factory downpipes, bigger gains are to be had with some of the better designs of header available.

hi all,
thanks for that insight, thats awesome.

My exhaust guy said that it would be hard to improve on the standard manifold. so does any have a photo of a es31 or know the manifold pipe size on the out let.

cheers shane

G'Day Anthony

If you were unlucky to crack a well made header, and it can happen, l know from experience Vin will replace it if it's not to old and has been installed with a flex joint on each side, (a must do, at about $90 to $130 each)
Does the imported system come with the 2 flex joints? Also Vins V6 headers are designed to deliver a smooth power increase.

Cheers big ears  ;D ;D

Hey Paul, g'day mate, glad to see that the rain hasn't washed you down the drain. Both imported sets of headers come with flex joints included the price mentioned earlier which ,when you think about it, makes them (well at least the American ones) quite reasonably priced

Since we're off topic anyway.....what sort of mountain bike?  Maybe we should start a 'pics of your bike' thread.
