Title: alfa 159 jts q4 - official service intervals?
Post by: lmarr on November 09, 2010, 08:56:17 AM
Hi,

I'm looking at buying a used 159 jts q4 v6. It's a late 2006 model (manual) and only has around 15000km on the clock.

I've tried searching these forums and elsewhere to find the official owners handbook with servicing intervals etc, but no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What is the official service interval on these cars? I've heard around 20,000km or every 2 years. Do they require a timing belt change every 3 yrs like the 156?

A lot of european car have service intervals at 20k kms.  But many owners do ensure at least a basic service and oil change is done at 10k kms or even 5k kms like what I prefer (I have a 156).

In any event, it has a chain not a belt so that issue is dealt with.

If you buy it, get it fully checked out 1st as a $100 pre-purchase inspection will highlight any issues. After purchaseing it, get it fully serviced - if you have not got it from a AR dealer.  Alternatively take it to a Alfa Speciallist workshop who are cheaper.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info - appreciated. Have just taken delivery of the car and am very happy with it - you certainly get a lot of car for the money.

3.2JTS has a timing CHAIN, so no need to have the expensive process of changing BELT again.  ;)

F*ck you're not  ;) , because you'd see that the intervals in those manuals for various scheduled maintenance jobs do not always apply to Oz-spec cars, and things change.

eg: 932 V6 3.2 cambelt change - according to the manuals - should be 'inspected' every 60K km, and changed every 120K km or every 4 years under demanding conditions, or else every 5 years. Hardly recommended!

I could speculate on the 159 Q4 cos I own one too, but I won't, because I'm unsure. I meant to check, but have forgotten, sorry.

According to the manuals the recommended engine oil and filter change is every 35K km or 2 years. Hmmm...what do you think about that?  :P
