I must ask, please give your preference forum opinion --->
What is the best Alfa Romeo of the 1980's and why ---> GTV6, 90, 75 or 164???

I think they're all very good cars that have their strong points.
The 164 is the hands down winner of refinement and performance out of the box. I would've bought one if I didn't already own a big, well handling FWD sedan (albiet an auto).
The GTV, well, it's an icon of it's time, only age has dulled it compared to modern cars, it is still a pretty impressive package.
The 75, looong model run, lots of parts available, very strong performer in all respects. Let down a bit by looks in my opinion.
The 90, every bit as good as a 75, a bit lighter than later 75's. Body, interior parts can be hard to find, but mechanically it's all Alfa.
I'd have happily bought a V6 75 when I bought the 90, lowest initial purchase price was my driving factor as the car will be a track day vehicle, I wanted to spend the money on the stuff underneath. But now I own the 90, I have  a LOT of respect for it as a package, very well built, very good handling, reasonably fast. It's impressive in that has 275k kms on it and is still taut and rattle free, it feels 10 years old at the most. The 90 is very much overlooked for some reason. Will it ever be collectible? I don't know, doubt it. But that doesn't matter, I think it's an excellent vehicle and I love driving it. It's every bit as much a performance Alfa sedan as anything else. I personally find the looks of the 90 grow on you, it initially appears bland, but slowly reveals itself as  a refined, well proportioned body shape, certainly compared to the stink bug rear end of the 75! ;D

Regards, Andrew.

Mmmm, very in depth thankyou, there is some definate passion out there, as posted it is hard to choose, but i thought of it this way seeing i have great examples of all the models, if it came down to a choice and Hitler said what is your departure order as much as i love them all first to go would be 164 then 90 then 75 and lastly GTV6, so i guess the GTV6 wins for me, it was the car that initally attracted me to Alfa Romeo, once driving one and getting a taste i think the other models just pop on thru in time, you just can not deny the GTV6 it is the complete package Great LOOKS, great INTERIOR and great ENGINE!
And this is reflected in its price when comparing Alfa Romeos, it is the only Alfa Romeo that is going up in price, lets face it and this comes from personal experience, although there may be some good examples around and owners are asking a good price, if you look around these days you can get a excellent running 90, 75 or 164 for $500 to $1000 easy, would you believe a few months ago i picked up not far from me a unregistered but running no problems 1989 V6 auto 164 for $350! is it possible to find a better luxury package at that price? And as long as you know the Alfa Romeo basics, they are quite easy to work on!

Am i the only one that has a soft spot for the giulietta ??

since i was 16 all i have owned is pretty much giuliettas, i was looking for another alfa few months/weeks ago 75/gtv or an alfetta but i got yet again another giulietta.

My opinion
164- Not the best looking, Great engine/power and looked quite luxury for its time.
75- A pretty good looking car, power wide is great  i think, seems like a nice car to drive overall. i hope to own one oneday.
Gtv- A very popular car, but i have never been to keen on owning one to be honest. Mabye because there popular.
90- I dont know anything about the 90s sorry. never really like the look of them.
33- My friend owned a 8v it was nice to drive but ive never been keen on fwd cars.
Sprint- Pretty much same as above
Alfetta- I quite like the look of the alfettas, i wouldnt mind owning one in the future.
Sud- i think there a little ugly . All to there own
Giulietta- Well my first car was a giulietta and ive been in love ever since.

To some alfisti it's like asking them to choose their favourite child.......
For the best all round package you can't go past the 75 Twinspark

However my favourite is the GTV6 warts and all

I REALLY like the back end of 164's, we should've bought one of them when we bought our other car.

I would qualify my preferences this way.
Irrespective of age, if you have no children or other needs to carry rear seat passengers regularly, then it's the GTV6.

If you are a family man with youngish kids, you need to be practical and so the 75 twin spark gets my vote there. It's very difficult to make a 4 door box have some presence. The 75 has plenty of presence and an aggressive, assertive stance with hard edges that are befitting of man made things like machinery. Make no mistake that in the whole context, the design works very well. At least as distinctive and as well as it does with the Giulia Super which is another 4 door box loved by architects during its hey day.

Apart form body style and function, I have a preference for RWD so that pretty much leaves the 164 out irrespective of how good a car it may or may not be. As for the 90, well this is the same deal as the 105 Berlina. The Berlina is in fact a better car to drive than the 105 coupe (longer wheel base ,less twitch )but it is no match for eye appeal compared with the coupe nor the Giulia. The sale price of both the 90 and Berlina reflects the general lack of ownership appeal even though they are reasonably good cars.

Well Storm the Giulietta is a great vehicle but generally most people go for the end of the run and as you are probably aware the 90 took over the Alfetta and the 75 over the Giulietta, so most people go for the 75 with its updates and that great V6!  ;)

Yes Storm stick to what you love, you always have to be true to yourself, but 90s and 75s are so cheap these days most under a $1000 easy, just grab some for great fun as long as you have the room, i have a huge collection but just keep three registered at any one time, but i just love them working and toying with them, the end result once you sort them out is unbelievable, cruising thru a mountain pass on a twisty road it is true sometimes that smile will just not go away, even if they are dropping a few shades of rust on the road here and there!!!!!  ;D

I would love any of them or if ever possible all of them but my preferences would be:

GTV6: Because I own two and dont need 4 doors yet. And it has a v6.
90: I like their uniqueness and dont mind the looks. If i needed 4 doors and a boot it would be my top choice. I wish they had a twin spark engine option aswell. Like the star wars cockpit feel.
75: Like the practicality and the idea of the twin spark engine.
Sud: They seem to have heaps of room inside for the size and i dont see many where i live. Like the look of them.
Alfetta: Would be nice to drive the car that started the driveline configuration that lasted so long.
Giulietta: Cool little car. they seem to go so well at the track.
33: I like the sportwagon the best with its 4x4, makes me want to go camping.
Sprint: Prefer the sud over the sprint look wise but still a cool little coupe. Was thinking of buying one as my first Alfa.
GTV: I like the looks but still prefer the look of the GTV6. Too many around. First Alfa i remember seeing growing up.
164: Dont mind the looks and the room just not a big fan.
