Title: Alfa V6 and Cosworth
Post by: Sheldon McIntosh on October 14, 2010, 11:26:00 PM
I read today that Cosworth tried to buy the "assembly lines" of the V6 when Alfa discontinued it.  Would be interested to learn more about the subject if anyone knew more, or has better translation skills than babelfish.

That article was a good find...didn't know you read La Stampa :o

You're pretty much right there, back in June 2005 they were going to be inspecting the production line for the Arese V6 after writing to Alfa headquarters to immediate suspend the decommissioning of the factory. With a view to take over supply of the V6 for existing vehicles (as listed)...hmmm. BTW the Alfa 166 in Italy did have a 3.2 V6...I know I rode in one the 76km from Montelaguardia to Catania airport.

It begs the question, I think, if the production line was decommissioned in 2005 what did they use to supply 2010 Anneversary GT's with...surely not 5yr old engines from the warehouse as is widely assumed?

PS they must have employed wine workers from Toscana for their skill in wine bottle rotation to turn the crank LOL

I know it looks like serious research that I found another reference to this topic mentioned in a "jalopnik.com" link BUT I found it by complete accident whilst reading the comments to this article;

"Remind Me Why I'm An Alfa Romeo Nut?"

FYI Milano ARC "Disco Johnny" display is this;

PS Apologies that I corrupt this thread with this very tenuous connection  :-[

PSS The mention of this in the article "Other cars such as Mercedes got the same system, but lacking the Russian element, didn't provide the same thrills" has somewhat changed as currently there is a 165,000 current model Mercedes C class etc recall for power steering failure. I'm sure that would provide thrills for the mostly "older" Merc owners.
