Title: Advice 159 JTD
Post by: Michele on September 06, 2010, 04:58:09 PM
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at joining your ranks with the purschase of a 159 JTD 2007 model.  My dad has owned several GTV's and Alfettas over the years and I've been infected with his disease.

Are there any major problems or foibles to prepare for?  Obviously I don't expect the car to be as reliable as a Honda Accord but if you could give me a heads up on any routine issues or foibles it would be a great.

If anyone could share their experiences with the car that would be great too.

thanking you in advance for you response,

cheers,

Michele

Michelle,

I owned a 159 for 3 1/2 years with no problems and I have no idea why you don't expect them to be as reliable as an Accord. New Alfas are a very different car to old Alfas (I also had a 1979 GTV and now race a 1979 Group S GTV), they are reliable, comfortable, the aircon works well as do the rest of the electrics.  Enjoy your 159, I know I did.

Thanks mate,
I'm just a bit hesitant because I have a friend who owned a 147 and the engine was replaced under warranty and the front suspension assembly had several problems.

So far I haven't heard any bad reports on the 159 though.

Are there any routine big ticket items ie:  timing belts, or filters?

cheers,

Michele

ours is 4 years old, only problem has been a dead battery, They have timing chains so no belts to worry about.

Only the petrols, the diesels still have belts.

No issues with my 159 after 2.5 years.  Obviously, a dead battery.  Seems they all do that.   ;D
But that is it.  I love it.  Great car.
Cheers,
Marco.
