Title: GTV tacho meter...
Post by: karlo on July 06, 2010, 04:23:32 PM
hey ppl.....My tacho (rev) meter doesn't seem to be working...when driving  its moves approx half a CM but wont pass that and just floats there, it looks like something is restricting it from moving.

Is this a common problem? or a quick fix?

thanks karlo ???

I had a similiar problem with my 1984 GTV and I just cut the last 1cm off the needle as it was severly bent due to heat as it was touching the speedo backing and it was then fine but its just now shorter than normal. If this will not fix your problem then remove and take the whole unit to a instrument repairer and they will fix the problem, probably $60-100 from memory for another alfa I had previously.

They bend with heat and age and touch against the dial, if you can, take the guage out of the dash and use your finger to move the needle around the dial, see if the needle is touching as it goes round.
BE CAREFULL NOT TO BREAK IT
if it is touching, one way of fixing it is to place a piece of wet and dry paper under the needle and carefully rubbing it over the paper, this will make the space it needs to move correctly

Removing the needle can be difficult if you dont use the correct technique they are easily broken
and repositioning can be hit and miss
