Guys,
Can anyone tell me what tools do i need to replace timing belt and engine on Alfa 156 and does anyone make off the market ones?
Get on ebay and have a look. I hope you know what you are doing with this car as its easy to mess it up
I'v got friend that will do it for me , but he told me that he need special tools for Alfa so i neet to find out wich ones and to try and find them off the market.
u will get them on ebay
places like ebspares (uk) and http://www.alfaworkshop.co.uk/ will have what u need...
if you're planning on doing it only once, might not be economically sound... maybe better off paying a pro..
tools...
ribe socket set
cam blocks x 2
TDC guage and plunger
cam tool and variator extractor tool
balance belt tool
- tools about 130-40 quid plus shipping
proper parts:
belt kit incl tensioner and idle pulley
balance belt kit + aux belt
= 120 quid + shipping
mileage dependent idle:
variator
water pump
= 120 quid + shipping
so you're looking around 370 quid+ at least 40 shipping or >$700AUD just in parts... not really worth it for a one off, when u consider an established alfa specialist (does not include variator tho) is around $800 for the cam belt kit job....
for subsequent jobs it starts to be more worth it, or if it's purely a DIY thing, but since you're not doing it...
and yes, ur friend can easily stuff it up... and above is the cheap way from uk, good luck on support on those parts....
if your belt slips or some part fails soon after the service and kills the engine u are covered by an implied warranty for workmanship - plus a real specialist will give you a written express warranty for the work.
what are you gunna do? sue your friend?
