Title: Crankshaft pulley swap?
Post by: prova on June 02, 2010, 10:37:46 PM
Removed the aircon system from my 2.0 1985 GTV and was wondering if I can swap the crankshaft pulley for one off another Alfa that has only a single belt drive rather than using the large twin belt pulley fitted?

If so has anyone got one they would be happy to sell?

Thanks Ren

105 and 116 pulleys are interchangable. The Alfettas have harmonic balancers fitted to the sigle pulleys which makes them look different but they are getting too old and the internal rubber is failing and altering the timing. So either fit an after market harmonic balancer (better for engine) or a single conventional pulley. If you get desperate, you can even machine down the three gang twin spark pulley to make a single one but it will need rebalancing.

Hi Ren,
Does your aircon pulley have a belt groove then a flat space between the next belt groove?.
If it is one of those then I just machine off the bit not wanted, have been running one on my race car for years. If you want to play it safe as MD said get the balance checked after.
Cheers
Andrew
