Hi everyone
With some better-qualified assistance I changed my front rotors and pads (Ferodo DS Performance) & installed a set of Goodridge braided lines in the weekend. It only served to remind me yet again how much I f*#ken hate working on cars but I digress. Anyway, after bleeding them up I had a nice and hard pedal so took the car out to bed everything in around the nearest industrial estate. I cycled through maybe 6-8 hard-ish stops, let everything cool then repeated. Through the process the pedal feel and travel (and actual stopping power) went through various stages of change, and once I was comfortable I could still stop & that the fluid level had not dropped I went home to drown my sorrows over what a useless mechanic I am in light of what everyone else here seems to be able to achieve.
So, I haven't driven the car any distance since but manoeuvring in the driveway a day later it's clear the pedal still has a very long travel. Is this normal? Can I expect this to come back up with further use? I'm inclined to have a real-live mechanic re-check the work and re-bleed if necessary, but if this is likely to correct itself after a few days use then I might hold off.
Thanks for any feedback.
Cheers
Rory
Not uncommon to have a soft pedal after new pads may take a couple hundred ks to come back.Ps even those of us that can, still hate working on our cars
Cheers Ray, will see how it goes over the next few days.
And glad to hear I'm not alone in my frustrations ;D
