Title: timing after balance belt put on
Post by: robmick60 on May 24, 2010, 08:45:17 PM
hi ,can anyone help me out here?i have put a 2002 147 2.0ts engine and box into my 1999 2.0ts 156 there were a couple of differences one was the wiring at the back of the alternator which i changed over off my 156 then the other problem is the balance belt which is located in front of the cam timing belt, put the belt back on and i followed the diagram for timing set up. tdc at no1 piston and lined up the cam mark as the diagram the balance cams where lined up at 12.00 oclock as the diagram.when i started it up it was rattling a bit, is the timing out or could it be something else?also i noticed that the throttle flap inside the body worked then it didn't any ideas please.thanks

Errr.... What? The balance shaft belt is in FRONT of the cam belt.  Its the skinny one with teeth on both sides.  147 and 156 twinspark motors have exactly the same cam belt and balance shaft belt setup, so you've lost a pulley somewhere.  And given that you haven't realised that fact, I'd say save yourself money in the long run, and put the car on a tow truck to an Alfa specialist to change the belts.  Alfa valves are expensive.
