Title: Eastern Creek lap in 1979 GTV
Post by: NigelC on May 08, 2010, 08:07:56 AM
One lap at eastern Creek in 1979 Alfetta GTV with standard 30 year-old engine - never even been reconditioned.  Slow but steady. Recorded on GoPro Hero camera 2 May 2010.

Good stuff, But how do you manage to do 1 lap ( 360 degree's i assume) with the sun in your eyes the whole time ???

I'm a bit disappointed with the GoPro camera.  That's only the second time I have used the camera (and the second race I have driven in).  The sound took a bit of fiddling but, as is mentioned in another thread on here, sound is always going to be an issue because of the dynamic range.  The exposure is also not great although with the sun that low it would be a challenge for any camera.  The camera is mounted using the factory clamp system on the roll-cage centre bar that goes diagonally behind the drivers seat.

It would be nice to just punt those English cars off the track!  Loved the Bathurst video, very nice drive.

The engine has never been reconditioned in any way.  I have a put a straight through exhaust with a resonator on it and have replaced the air intake with a foam filter and short trumpets on the Dellorto DHLA40 carburretors.  It still has the original pollution control cams but they will be swapped shortly for a set of 10548 cams.
