Title: Information on Alfa Romeo 1300 GTJ
Post by: Paulo on May 03, 2010, 07:42:37 AM
Hello

I purchased a 1300 Alfa Romeo GTJ 1968, four gauges on the dashboard.

It is to restore, and came with two engines disassembled, a complete and another incomplete.

How to tell if the two engines is 1300 cc?

I would also find the manual for proprietors of this model in PDF, I would appreciate if any can get.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase! If you could tell us the engine numbers on the side of the block we can tell you what size engine from which year

There should be a mark on the front of the head above the waterpump.

1300 will have a vertical line
1600 will have a square
1750 will have a triangle, and a dot inside the triangle if it's from an Alfetta
2000 will have a square with a diagonal line through it.

Hi Paulo
Nice purchase congrats
Another way to tell, is to determine the distance from the top of the block to the top of the waterpump. If the top of the block is flush with the waterpump it's a 1300, if the distance is 25mm it's a 1600, if it's 40mm then it's a 1750 or 2000.

Cheers
Pep

If the engines are apart, measure the bores of the liners.

1300 74mm
1600 78mm
1750 80mm
2000 84mm

The heads are marked on the front, as per Sheldon's post.

Post some pictures sometime.

Hi Paulo,

Send me a PM with your email address, and I'll send you a PDF copy of the user's manual for a Series 1 GT1300 Junior. It's not a great copy, but everything is there.

Regards,

Nick

Thanks to all

I go by what it feels easier,
first I will see what our colleague  "Sheldon"  said:
see objects in front of the engine
