Hi all
My 12 yo son is showing some interest in understanding the mysteries of the internal combustion engine and I would like to give him some encouragement!
Does anyone have a small capacity motor that is worn out/damaged/surplus to requirements?
I would like to get him something that he/we can take apart and put back together (don't want him to practice on my GTV6)!
Melbourne or close to Melbourne would be good, cash or beer if required, I will of course pick the motor up.
Cheers
Alan
If you don't get a reply and your in a hurry go down to your local lawn mower shop and get something that is broken but with an explanation from the mechanic as to whats wrong and how to fix it.
Once your son has that figured out i will give you my number and he can come play on my mower.
Hmmm, a mower is probably a good place to start Paul.
I don't think I would let him loose on anyone elses though, I have a feeling he's going to be an enthusiastic dismantler but no so good on the assembly!!

Aren't we all? :D
Hi Alan, we've got a Briggs and Stratton 5hp motor here you can have. It was in a Deutscher self propelled mower and was motored up a bank without enough oil in it. It has a broken conrod, but I think that's all there is wrong with it. The crank might need a re-grind or linish, I'm not sure. Might make a good basis for a go-kart.
I'm in Ferntree Gully
Cheers, Scott
ive got a 4 wheel pocket bike that has seaized a motor and needs a few other little bits but it could be a good project for him and he could end up with a bike to what happened to the motor was the young fella was riding it and it just stoped but you could hear it struggle just before it stoped
Thanks everyone for the response, I really appreciate it!
I have taken a couple of the guys up on mower motors, so my son has got plenty to go on with!
Hope my sidchromes survive the experience :)
Cheers
Alan
