Title: Locating engine number on 156 2.0 JTS
Post by: youcantry on February 01, 2010, 10:32:26 AM
Bought an Alfa interstate, now need a blue slip in NSW. Mechanic has to sight the engine number stamped on the block.

Where on earth is it? Can someone post a photo? Or a description of exactly what has to be removed to see it? Or if we use a camera on the end of a flexible rod, can we sight it that way?

Many hours have been spent already  >:(

As you look at the engine from the front of the car, there is a block to the right of the exhaust manifold and down a little, it is stamped on there.

Thanks John,

I saw that piece of advice elsewhere also. We pulled the heat shield off the manifold and a few bits off the right side also (I'm not a mechanic), but no joy. We ran a camera everywhere we could think of. We found a flat portion on the block but apparently no stamp there - this flat section faces the car's left side (i.e. the passenger side) - is that where to look? Or does the number face forward towards the front of the car?

Thanks in advance,

Chris.
