Title: GTV 2.0
Post by: dd italia on December 16, 2009, 07:59:11 PM
Finally got my gtv started after it just needed the spark plugs cleaned, since they have been fouled up.
As soon as got it out of the driveway went down my street and put it into 2nd it like slowed down as i put the clutch in and as i put it into 2nd it pretty much stoped on the road.. ive tried a few times up and down my street and the same problem, it drives absolutely fine in 1st..

- thanks, Daniel.

Hi Daniel,
Can you give a little more detail, when you say it stops do you mean the engine cuts out?,do you mean there is no drive and the engine just revs?or does everything just lock up?.Please be as descriptive as possible.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew, well as soon as i put the clutch in its like its activating the breaks it just slows down dramatically, the engine doesn't cut out. It rolls and picks up speed very very slowly from when i take out the clutch..

Is your handbrake sticking? Common problem at our house. How buried is your right foot in first to make it drive fine?

Do the engine revs drop and pick up slowly with the speed?.
Matt means the hand brake levers on the rear callipers could be sticking holding on the rear brakes which will give similar results.Get under the rear and make sure the levers are backed off and the brake pads are free.
Alternatively jack up the back under the dedion and make sure the wheels turn freely.

Mate, if you want some help you really need to give more details about the problem, more than you have given so far.  As many details as possible would help, it's quite difficult to diagnose a problem over the interweb otherwise.  You'll find people on this forum are very eager to help, but they're not magicians, they need all the information.

Has the car been sitting for a while?  Sounds like maybe a sticky caliper (or handbrake).

Does the car rev normally in neutral?

revs fine in neutral. drives fine in 1st, just as soon as i put the clutch in the car completely starts to slow down practically it stops and then it takes off very slowly after that and stays at low speed maybe no more then 15 or 20k's.. takes off as if its taking off in 3rd gear.
i drove it around the block, few times up and down the st and the same problem. i drove it back straight home. although it hasn't been driven in over a month.. which is why the spark plugs fouled up. ill take it for it for a drive tomorrow and get more specific details.

Check out the rear brakes first as I said in my earlier Post.
Cheers
