Title: 33ti Wheel centre caps
Post by: philpot on August 31, 2009, 06:56:10 PM
 >:( Don't you just love it when tyre places try to tap out the plastic B&W alfa symbol caps, when theyre designed to be pushed inwards? Had tyres balanced and rotated today, but this time watched in horror to see a wooden hammer handle being used to try to tap them 'out'. Now I know how they're all cracked up and split!!! "...in all other cars they tap out..." said the local tyre bloke. Ouch... :(
Has anyone else had this problem? Can you get replacement ones like the originals? How much do they go for?

Hi Brooke,
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you got lots of good bits with your 33, yes they're ace to drive, FUN! Yes that would be cool. Have noticed there are different types, the early ones like mine that push in to remove, that have long lugs that locate in a groove half way down the hole, and later ones that do 'Tap Out' .Though not with blunt instrument I trust!
Um, cost? postage? Maybe you could pm me?, Live in East Gippsland, Eastern Victoria.
Cheers, Phil.

Hi

Understand your problem and frustration with tyre fitters. Can get new originals easily and not expensive (Milano in Melb - $35??). Luckily you are after 33 centres as the Ti Twin Carb Sud's with the same wheels are impossible to find (white centres as opposed to black).

Yeah, after originals. (The push in from the inside ones) Keeping my 33ti as original as possible, next time in melb will check out Milano's. Thanks for the tip!

Re wheel caps, before you have any work done on your rims always take the centre caps off, then they can't be damaged or left at the tyre repair store, also if the tabs have become a little loose and every time you wash the rims they fall back in the centre of the rim take the caps off, stick a correct size inner circlip on the inside of the tabs, and with ahot soldering iron melt the plastic against the circlip to retain it, then the plastic cap should stayput in the rim, Colin.
