Title: Kerb weight
Post by: TheConverted on July 22, 2009, 10:50:15 PM
Just a quick question,

What is the kerb(curb) weight of a GTV 84 model?

Cheers

Thanks mate, much appreciated. Im sure my searches stumbled on that site too, but i didnt notice the specs tab.
Why doesnt this site/forum not have a spec page on all of the alfa range?

I have the original handbook & servive books for my 1979 steel bumper Alfetta GTV . It notes the kerb weight (full tank of petrol) at 1040 Kg. You would assume the later plastic bumper cars would be a little bit heavier.

Bump

If you are after the full specs on all the Alfa range imported into Australia try Pitstop books in Perth.
Last year they were selling copies of AROCA life member David Wright's book,  "Spot Light on Alfa Romeo Downunder"  Volumes 1 & 2 for about  $15.00 each. The definitive source for settling any arguments.

My Haynes manual published 1985 quotes the Alfetta sedan kerb weight with full tank at 1140kg.
It places the 2 litre coupe kerb weight with full tank at 1232kg.
This is for models up to 1981.

MD, I was having a look at that myself. I think figure of 1232kg relates to American spec GTV's ( Veloce Sprint) that had rail way sleepers for front  & rear bumpers. I have read a post on Alfa BB and it notes the front & rear bumpers at over 100 lbs. Great place (each end of the car) to put an extra 100lbs.

From memory I think the plastic bumber GTV was quoted at 1060kg (kerb) and approx 1100kg with air con

I still have the 82 GTV model owners manual from the old car but cant find it, was looking for it now as the little lady did a clean out today, but did manage to find the original service books though with service records from 1982 to 1989 at Alfa City !

Paul,

My interpretation is a little different based on the manual. For example it quotes 3 weights for the Sport Sedan ie, the Alfetta.viz :

Kerb weight (full tank)
1 Except N. America (assuming European and Oz releases) 1140 kg
2 North America without impact absorbing bumpers             1200kg
3 North America with impact absorbing bumpers                  1297kg

So clearly if the manual is correct ( and I cannot categorically say one way or the other) then the yank bumpers add 97Kg overall which is in addition to the yank package above and beyond the Euro base weight of 1140Kg being an additional 60 kg ie 1140 +60+97=1297 kg

Regrettably the manual does not make the same elaboration for the coupe only to quote its kerb weight with full tank at 1232 kg. Now this could be assumed to represent the Euro version onto which the American "package" of an extra 60 kg was added plus 97kg bumpers making a total of 1232+60+97=1389kg which would not suprise me.

I am not exactly sure if I am helping anyone here -I just hope so.

I found it difficult to find specs on the WWW, which actually surprised me. Which is why I mentioned why a dedicated alfa romeo site does not have a specs page. This site is an obvious 1st option when searching for such information.
Interesting that we dont have a difinitive answer.

Thanks mate, thats a pretty a good source to rely on. There couldnt be too much difference to an 83/84 model.

Well, I will be picking up one this morning.... ;D

I will start a projects thread in the appropiate section.....stayed tuned.
