Title: 2003 156 JTS - Child Car seat anchor points?
Post by: Prana69 on July 22, 2009, 07:00:54 PM
Hi there.  I am considering purchasing a used 2003 156 JTS.  It is in Sydney and I am in Melbourne, so I have not been able to check this out myself - can someone tell me if this model has child car seat anchor points mounted behind the rear head rests?  I had an inspection done but the inspector said he couldn't find any anchor points other than the single one in the centre on the parcel shelf.  I checked out a 2002 V6 yesterday and it had points hidden behind the rear head rests, but you had to take them all the way out to find them.  Although I told the inspector to look there, I just wonder if he did not take the head rests out far enough (i.e.: all the way) to find them.  He said he checked out the owner's manual too, and it only refers to a centre anchor point.

If someone out there owns a 2003 156 JTS and can check this out for me, I'd be very grateful.  Then I'll come back and tell you all about my new love affair.

Tks
David

They (or the bolt holes) will be behind the head rests as per the other car you looked at.
Australia has very specific child restraint ADR's. If the car doesn't have them, then it's not road legal anywhere in Aust.

Thanks for the replies.

FYI - I had the owner of the car check it out and she confirmed the anchor points are hidden behind the rear head-rests, though their location is a little different from the 02 V6 that I looked at the other day.

i just want to bump this up for confirmation.

are there indeed 3 anchor points in every 156? I've never located any other than the one centre one.

do I just need to look closer at the headrests?

Definitely. They're in behind the headrests,  just raise these (there's a locking pin on one or both of the shafts)  and you'll see a plastic cover with the child restraint symbol. The covers can be released with a screwdriver and you're laughing.

Cheers

thanks Rory, i'll have a closer look tonight. My wife (8 1/2 months pregnant with our second) will kill me if i tell her there are points other than the centre one. she's been struggling with the seat in the middle for 2 1/2 years.

Tell her you've just had them installed...

Sorry to hijack this thread...this is somewhat related!

Having received delivery of my new (old) 2002 156GTA, I was having a bit of a look at the manual and there is a comment in there that if you prefer a diagonal inertia reel middle belt instead of a lap belt, you could ask the dealer to fit one (or maybe you ordered it like this from the factory).

I was planning to jury-rig a harness from the middle mounting point and thread through the lap belt for my 4yo to use. However if I thought I could replace it with a diagonal belt from the dealer (or from a wrecker) I would be keen to do that.

Anybody have any comments or suggestions?

Thanks
Torben
