Title: Weber carby mounts
Post by: 1750GTV on June 11, 2009, 12:59:33 PM
Over the last couple of months I've noticed the dreaded inlet squeak signifying an air leak through a set of very old carby mounts. I've purchased the relevant bits and was going to sort it over the coming weekend.
The new mounts are single rubber ones and I was wondering what other 105 owners thought of the more modern solid aluminium mounts.
Does anyone have an opinion?
Regards,
Chris

just changed mine over on my 70 1300 jnr opted out for the rubber ones only for cost but i can say i was tempted by the billet ones if only for the looks but im sure function wise there would be little or no difference good value if you buy them direct from clasic alfa uk others are a bit more pricey.cheers

I am pretty sure if you want to fit the alloy mounts that you still need to run the rubber mounts as well as they reduce the vibration from the motor. The alloy mount alone will cause vibration issues with the fuel which is no good. I have the much longer ones fitted to my 116 GTV with the original rubber mounts in place, I also have the shorter alloy mounts on my 105 spider along with the rubber mounts still in place and both work perfectly. I purchased both from PACE/Vin Sharp in Melb.

Careful, I think we're talking about 2 different parts here, the alloy mounts that Simon is talking about are inlet 'extensions', designed to increase inlet track length which tends to improve torque in the lower rev ranges.  The mount pictured above is indeed a replacement for the rubber mounts (the stud configuration shown means it would be impossible to run them in conjunction with the original rubber mounts.  I haven't had any experience with them but I believe the vibration issue is delt with by the sealing O-ring and special washers.  I've had plenty of the original's crack, and these ones do look good

Thanks for all of the help.
I've decided to fit the new rubber mounts as the budget does not run to the solid aluminium ones, even if they do  look great. Maybe next time.
Out of interest, do they have an O-ring on each side or are they meant to mount only one way? If they flush mount to the inlet manifold at least when it comes time to renew the O-ring, you wouldn't have to remove the manifold as well .....

Happy boy tonight - all back together.
Carbies balanced and tuned.
The engine runs beautifully.
No more squeaking .....
