Title: Seagate 7200.11 Hard drive failures
Post by: Stuart Thomson on May 14, 2009, 09:42:25 PM
Don't know how many of you this will affect, but...

I got home from the Alfa club meeting last night to find that my computer had lost it's main hard drive.

A quick bit of searching on the net found http://www.tomshardware.com/news/seagate-7200.11-failing,6844.html (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/seagate-7200.11-failing,6844.html)

Mine is was a 1Tb drive, it's still under warranty so will go back.  I now have a new Western Digital hard drive in its place.

Luckily I run Time Machine on my Mac and have a 2Tb external HDD which seems to be rebuilding the machine, so I haven't lost anything yet (including this months magazine BTW).

Those of you with large hard drives in their computers should check the firmware...

Cheers
Stuart
