Title: exhaust manifold heat-shield
Post by: kartone on March 13, 2009, 06:59:56 PM
Cioa Alfistas!
my new acquisition, a 1980 Alfetta GTV.
Noticed the heat emanating from the exhaust manifold is baking everything in its reach including the brake lines (which get very hot to the touch), brake oil reservoir, airconditioning plumbing, etc..
Has anyone thought of mounting a heat-shield to convey the heat down towards the rear of the engine just forward of the firewall ?
Any input welcomed

Does anyone know where can I source heat shielding material like aluminium foil clad padding typically found under the car's hood or metal heat shields typically mounted on exhaust manifolds ?

you should try heat tape. you rap it around your manifold

Found heat-shield material at local speed shop  8) and intented to mould and mount same utilizing the existing four bolts on the exhaust manifold (bolts probably originally used in colder climates to mount shroud to collect & convey warmed air to intake air filter)  ;)

the four bolts in the exhaust manifold are there to allow for gas analysis/carb tuning,
and do make for good heat shield mount. see pic and good luck

GTV,

did something similar and also partially enclosed rear towards firewall and provided a contoured cut-out for access to the dipstick.
