Title: Asbestos?
Post by: Beatle on January 27, 2026, 12:37:05 PM
Just obtained a container load of 164 spares and noticed the (used) exhaust heat shields have the fibrous insulation separating.

Didn't think much about it at the time but what are the chances it's asbestos?  :-[

Parts would be 1989 vintage.

50:50!

My late 1987 build date 75 3.0 V6 "had" an asbestos lined exhaust heat shield.
I made up a replacement from this.

I responded to your post on the AlfaBB with an AI answer that Alfa used asbestos into the 1990's for heat shields. I'm sure you know how to handle asbestos. If any of the parts you have look to be damaged I would wet them  and bag them for disposal. I have been away form this forum for a few years when I do open a thread it's like an empty hall and the sound of crickets, a lot of the questions asked by new forum members go unanswered. I think the classic alfa owners are thinning out and the owners of the more modern alfas are not interested in this social media type for information,
