Title: Key stuck in ignition lock - wont start and wont extract
Post by: ACE on August 11, 2025, 09:09:21 PM
Forumites, please help ... ?
2015 Giulietta Multiair
The ignition key is stuck in the ignition lock.
The car wont start (key will not turn) and the key will not come out of the lock.
I have disconnected the battery and reconnected it - in the vein hope it will resolve the issue. But no!

Any ideas on how to free the key (I don't have a big hammer!)

I have also checked the key fob battery.
It shows a bare 3V, which hopefully is not the issue.

OK, after struggling for over an hour with what I thought was every combination of key motion, doors open & closed, facial expression, with and without the main battery connected ...
My wife suggested that I should try wiggling the steering wheel while turning the key.
We are back in business!
Ciao

For future reference Key FOB battery is supposed to be 3V.

Also if it is a TCT the car must see it is in neutral, or it won't let you remove the key, so sometimes running the shifter through all the positions and back to park will resolve the issue and allow key removal.

just in case anyone else runs into this issue.
