Title: Bonaldi twin circuit rhd 1974 no brake pressure new seals fitted to mc
Post by: vinnychoff on June 11, 2025, 09:37:08 PM
Hello, I hope you can help?
My 105 spider 2.0ltr has spent many months parked up with little use. The brakes were getting difficult to bleed up hard so i decided to replace the master cylinder seals.
ebspares were the only ones to supply for my bonaldi mc and i changed them. I have tried to bleed the brakes but do not get any pressure, sometimes it feels half way down but then disappears.
comparing the old seals to the new ones, they are lips protruding which i have not seen before. they did not seem worn compared to the new old ones?
i was told that the travel of the mc should be 24.5mm set this up.
i am using a bleeder bottle so no air is getting back. i have checked the booster pipes, and took them apart to make sure all is clean and moving. i replaced two pipes since the old ones broke. i replaced the three flexible pipes a few years ago. i dont see any leaks anywhere but pressure is not building up when i pump. i can pump 20 times before i feel a little ressistance at the end of the pedal push.
as the master cylindes are around 400 pounds uk which is a lot of money. i want to eliminate all options before i replace it. if this is the fault or there is something else like the brake switch or brake balance or something else? I did take the rear balance device apart a few years ago but did not adjust or change the setting. just cleaned it.
I guess a step by step check would help me or ways to check each device if they are working or letting in air?
Vincenzo

Hi, I managed to get it working. I replaced the master cylinder seals. there are three lip seals and one convential seal on the master cylinder.
It was a long time to bleed and i was going to give up. I then saw some posts that said about undoing the union pipes further along to allow the air and fluid out. Through doing this i think it managed to move trapped air from the brake switch area and the brake balance at the back of the car. I have a solid brake pedal now where as before the pedal used to sink to the floor.
