Title: Giulietta hand brake not engaging.
Post by: Mike K on February 17, 2024, 11:39:04 AM
Hi All

Has anyone else had a problem with the hand brake ratchet not engaging, Our family has had two. Was quoted $400 to repair so did it myself using coat hanger wire. it's the plastic push buttton part that cracks and bends, the wire holds it together, no need to remove the complete hand brake assembly or surrounding trim, remove plastic hand grip and slide out button, see pic, don't forget to use the large box of patience.

I've had to repair a few of these in clients cars, the usual cause is the spring mechanism for holding the locking ratchet fails.

Unfortunately there is no real reliable way to fix them, so the hand brake handle assembly has to be replaced.

If you're in Brisbane & you'd like me to take care of it for you just give me a call, my details are below.

Have done two, first took 2 hours second only an hour. had a crack as it would take a couple weeks for a full replacement, if you're handy with tools and car maint then it's do-able.
