This looks serious!
Hi Jim,
I think the technical term is Fubar.
Cheers
Stuart
Its not quite but nearly FUBAR
It's just a 'flesh wound' .............
A can of metal mend should fix it. You know I will have a can or two lying about
These new-fangled engines are great, just plug a computer in and turn everything up......
Jim has your motor got a knock sensor? does it work? You may need to hook up a light or some other warning device if you cant here it
yes, it has a knock sensor that is connected to the ECU - will have to look into seeing if I can look at its output.
jim.
The marks in the top of the piston there, factory cut outs right? Or is the rev limiter disabled? :D
any progress Jim? are the pistons out yet ? Or the motor?
I think I can salvage this !!
Salvage it, of course you can, there is nothing wrong with it. Iwas not sure so I asked Ben ; he said "It looks ok to me" so I guess thats decisive
That should buff right out...
Jim, its hard to tell from the top photo's...did the bore get damaged or is it a reflection in the photo? Whats you plan of attack for the repair / re-build?
Cheers,
Simon
no, the bore is ok, a hone will do.. I have most of the parts enroute, but March 1st looks like a bridge too far at this stage!
jim.
thats not so bad then...good luck
How is the rebuild going Jim? You are obviously not at Winton (like me)?!
I would be interested to hear about the purchase and import process of this car too.
Nearly fixed.....
that long motor looks so nice.
Funny looking ports isn't it? Or is that how 16V engines normally look? What does the manifold look like?
Go fast bits now bolted on....
Still no beer fridge???
there is a beer fridge and ive seen it ive even had the pleasure of one of its occupants
Nearly finished.. picture of beer fridge enclosed, along with picture of beer..
Jim did you polish the links on the chain on the engine crane? Never seen it look that good before.
YEAH!
it's on now...

YEAH!
it's on now...
Not quite a FRIDGE though, is it? ;D
get stuck in enough and it's anything you want it to be
Not only is is *NOT* a fridge, but some of the bottles are empty.....and, there's no tools, no Alfa's - not even any cars...at all..
love those cam wheels - more fotos please...
what motor is that?
But there IS beer :D
Added a few more bits..Not many more bits to add, really. next week it will be back in the car for the first time since Jan! Center Differential in now in place!
Can't argue with the variety point.
HOWEVER
Here be me fridge! a photo from back when i was younger and poorer (in monetary and judgement terms). I highly recommend nobody EVER buy this beer.
P.S. sorry Jim
Jim,
Engine is looking great, can't wait to see it back in the car and fired up.
OffTopic - Sorry Jim, couldn't help to jump onboad the beer fridge topic.
Beer is close to my heart.
Lads - find attached a photo of my beer fridge, 2 kegs = 40 Litres of Beer
1 x Belgium Blonde
1 x Little Creature Bright Ale Clone
2 x 14Kg CO2 bottles for dispensing.
Now thats a beer fridge!!!! :P
No problems boys..now that is a real beer fridge.
Now its actually in the car...
exhaust finally complete...3" tube is more difficult to work with than I thought.. The bend radii are big...and threaten to run into things you hadn't planned...
fitted the electric water pump... and proved that the bonnet can be closed with that big radiator..
Almost ready for 'standard class' again...
Jim full points looking good.
This is a "first start" video of my Alfa Romeo 155 Q4's new engine. Yes, i don't leave it 'started' for very long! I had forgotten to attach the hose that goes from the 'idle auxiliary air input valve' to the other side of the inlet manifold - resulting in too much air going in :) - but once that was sorted it purred like a kitten. Thanks to Ray for lending me all his tools and Mal for being there on the big day!
