Title: 159 1750 vs 3.2 V6
Post by: Heli1 on February 26, 2022, 09:56:20 AM
Hi everyone.
What is the opinion here on the best engine to have in the 159? I obviously understand the need for a well looked after and good service history, but not being mechanical minded, I don't want to end up with one that causes unnecessary heartache to maintain. I am thinking either the v6 or 1750 TBi.Thoughts?
Cheers

You may want to investigate how well either engine will integrate with your present ECU. I expect you will have less problems with the V6 than with the 1750 Tbi

Is this an engine transplant question.. or straight out, which version 159 is better?

Personally, I'd go for the 1750tbi every time.
I believe it will be easier to find OE service and go faster parts for it long term also
(given it's an FCA engine, not a GM abnormale)

No idea which has the better power/weight, torque, fuel economy - that said, the one in my GQV is the most reliable and tractable Alfa donk I've ever had over the last 35years (closely followed by a 1.9JTD), ie. the recent FCA engines are great.

Yes, its a decision on which car to buy. Tbi seems to be the preferred engine. THanks for the feedback

V6 awd anyday, get it re-mapped,hi flow cats, catback exhaust & Autodelta or Wizard headers and you have 290hp+. V6 sounds better than any 4 pot & the 4wd system gives you safe & sure footed handling. Get a Ti model post 2009 ,4 cylinder models may have problems with weaker gearboxes.
